New World Experience Part 1: Mark Robba on Dunia Baru

Super Yachts Charters - Wed, 01/23/2019 - 10:00
New World Experience Part 1: Mark Robba on Dunia Baru “Dunia Baru was never built for charter.” began the superyacht’s owner and businessman Mark Robba. “I built her as a platform for my family to explore the 17,000 islands in the Indonesian archipelago and when we decided to offer her for charter the feedback was really amazing.”

Not built on a budget, nor with a time schedule, Mr Robba had the patience to create an Indonesian phinisi masterpiece; built with the elegance and drama required to reflect her surroundings. Mark explains, “Dunia Baru is a truly Indonesian yacht, down to her very soul. She was crafted by hand by the renowned Konjo Boat Builder, who have been building the finest phinisis for generations. Asmat wood carvers made incredible wall panels on board, while artisans from Bali did paintings and extraordinary artwork was collected for the yacht from across the archipelago.”

Now available for charter, Dunia Baru is a rare superyacht that has been purposely crafted to fit with one destination. “South East Asia has so much to offer visiting superyachts,” Mark shares, explaining the reasoning behind a destination-built vessel... “We've explored the waters around Malaysia, Thailand, Palau and the Mergui Archipelago, but honestly, we could spend the next 20 years in Indonesia and still find new things.”

What’s slightly, less-rare, however, is the conversation on South East Asia as a growing yachting destination. Seeing the traffic first hand, Mark describes, “It is a booming yachting destination as well and an increasing number of foreign flagged superyachts are coming here. There is so much to explore.”  But, as the experienced owner explains, only Indonesian flagged boats are allowed to charter in these remote waters. Dunia Baru of course, makes this list.

So with a vessel more than fit for purpose we asked the question, why Indonesia? “It is astonishingly beautiful here. And, unlike the beautiful places in the Med or Caribbean, it is still an untouched paradise. You can find yourself in remote bays or anchored off of deserted beaches without another vessel in sight. You could pass a whole charter without seeing another soul a part from the people on your yacht,” surely what every superyacht owner or charterer wants?

Aside from the off-radar ability of the country’s 1,700 islands and islets, Robba mentions a handful of other major draws which include the natural diversity of the renowned Coral Triangle, housing some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world, as well as birdwatching and animal-spotting… not to forget the Balinese Beach Clubs.

So with a one of a kind built vessel in an other-wordly location, Mark continues this conversation in Part 2, explaining the unusual charter experience on board…

National Geographic and Herbal Essences Unearth the Power of Botanicals in New Storytelling Partnership that Launches with Premiere of Branded Content Special, Secrets of the Garden

National Geographic News Feed - Thu, 01/17/2019 - 13:00

The branded content special and extended short video digital content will take viewers inside the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, where scientists are working to unlock the full potential of real botanicals.

WASHINGTON (January 17, 2019) – Today, National Geographic and Herbal Essences announce a new branded content partnership, SECRETS OF THE GARDEN, which premieres tonight, January 17th at 6/5c on National Geographic. It highlights the first global hair care partnership between Herbal Essences and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, which celebrates the real botanicals used in Herbal Essences bio:renew products.

The partnership kicks off with a branded content special, SECRETS OF THE GARDEN, which chronicles the remarkable story of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Located just outside of London, Kew is the most biodiverse place in the world and one of the world’s leading authorities on plant science.  Herbal Essences has partnered with Kew, which has over 250 years of botanical expertise, to bring consumers more transparency and confidence in the ingredients that go into the Herbal Essences bio:renew products.

In the special, National Geographic turns their lens on London to explore the authority and scientific knowledge behind the Gardens and illustrate how Kew’s botanists are able to continually unlock the incredible secrets of the diverse plant kingdom. Viewers are taken on a journey through both the Gardens and laboratories where they meet the scientists who identify the unique ‘Botanical Fingerprint’ of each real botanical used in Herbal Essences bio:renew collections.

Professor Monique Simmonds, Kew Gardens’ first female Deputy Director of Science, and a true pioneer for botanical science, highlights the unique power of plants as they relate to the world of beauty, and underscores why Herbal Essences is the first global hair care brand endorsed by Kew.

“Herbal Essences places a high value on biodiversity and the wonders of the natural world, which aligns perfectly with the vision and values of National Geographic,” said Brendan Ripp, EVP Sales and Partnership at National Geographic. “We’re thrilled to offer our iconic storytelling to Herbal Essences, to bring their commitment to science into context, while generating both impact and engagement for the brand.”

In addition to the custom 30-minute special, National Geographic will produce a series of short videos that serve as explainers, a dynamic digital experience that takes visitors behind the scenes at Kew, and social posts to fully distribute the story to audiences across its vast media ecosystem.

The special will be available on demand beginning tomorrow, January 18 at: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/secrets-of-the-garden/. Please visit the link to learn more about the essence of great hair and the unprecedented collaboration between Herbal Essences and the Royal Botanic Garden, Kew.

“I am excited to share a deeper look into P&G Beauty’s collaboration and partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. This is an important story to tell. The ground-breaking work with Kew is not only shaping how we work with plants and botanicals to bring exciting products to our Beauty brands but also is setting new standards of natural ingredient quality for the beauty industry. National Geographic’s expertise in exploring the power of nature coupled with their unique storytelling ability brings this story to life and helps us connect with people interested in more natural products in a compelling way,” says Alex Keith, CEO P&G Beauty.

Sandra Botterell, Director of Marketing and Commercial Enterprise at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, said, “We are proud to be working with such a well-respected global haircare brand as Herbal Essences, and cannot think of a better platform on which the story of the partnership can be told as National Geographic. This incredible special will bring Kew to a global audience, highlighting the beauty, size and diversity of Kew’s collections. It really shows how we use these collections along with cutting edge analytical methods to ensure the quality of the plants being gathered from different parts of the world are of the quality required by Herbal Essences.”

This partnership demonstrates National Geographic’s unique ability to simultaneously support partners’ brand development goals while shining light on everyday scientists and their endeavors.

Charter Focus: M/Y Khalilah with SuperYachtsMonaco

Super Yachts Charters - Wed, 01/09/2019 - 10:00
Charter Focus: M/Y Khalilah with SuperYachtsMonaco SuperYachtsMonaco will be the worldwide Central Agent for stylish yacht Khalilah, they have announced. The 49m yacht is the debut from Palmer Johnson’s SuperSport series, and the largest to be privately built entirely in carbon composite.

Khalilah was delivered back in 2015 when she made waves as a cool, stylish and innovative yacht on the charter scene. She is instantly recognisable for her sleek and curvy exterior, designed by the in-house team at Palmer Johnson, as well as her revolutionary hull design. The SuperSport vessel is a sporty build with a distinctive gold flair, harbouring vast deck spaces with spa pool and huge beach club.

Styled by the Palmer Johnson design team, Khalilah’s interior is understatedly stylish with a playful twist. The main deck salon is zen-like in its ambience, with a sprawling seating area and Karelian birchwood bar stunningly offset by the ocean backdrop revealed by floor to ceiling windows.

The yacht can host 11 guests overnight in 5 en suite staterooms, each possessing its own look. In this way, the yacht’s accommodations resembled that of a boutique hotel, with all spaces uniquely styled and bespoke.

An ultra-modern galley on the main deck has an open-plan bar area, whilst the upper deck boasts a skylounge with a cool-contemporary loft vibe and an eye-catching colour scheme of bright white punctuated with pops of colour.

As well as her iconic aesthetic appeal, Khalilah is a fun-packed charter, possessing the latest water toys including a jetpack, hoverboard, wakeboard and jet skis, plus a custom 7m gold tender.

In terms of her performance and capabilities, she is top of the range - a fast displacement yacht with an impressive cruising speed of 18 knots.

With SuperYachtsMonaco has her new Central Agent, Khalilah is currently based in the South of France and available to charter from €245,000 in the Western Mediterranean.

48 Hours Chartering in Antigua & Barbuda

Super Yachts Charters - Thu, 01/03/2019 - 10:00
48 Hours Chartering in Antigua & Barbuda The idyllic shores and sailing waters of Antigua & Barbuda have been popular with the yachting community for decades. Today, the three main harbours house the world’s largest superyachts; whether they are visiting to attend the famous annual Charter Yacht Show or using the marinas as a winter home, here’s how to spend 48 hours on charter around the islands…

No trip to Antigua & Barbuda would be complete without a visit to the historic Nelson’s Dockyard. On arrival, pick one of three fantastic marinas to berth (Falmouth Harbour, Antigua Yacht Club or Nelson’s Dockyard itself) and hop off-deck to discover all that this national park  and cultural heritage site has to offer. Explore the Dockyard Museum before enjoying lunch in the picturesque setting of the Pillar’s Restaurant at 18th Century Admiral’s Inn.

After lunch, take a short trip to Clarence House for a real colonial experience. Built in 1783, the stately property perches on the hilltop providing panoramic vistas. A previous resting spot for members of the British Royal Family (including King William IV, Princess Margaret and Prince Harry), tours are today available to the public. Soak in the Georgian architecture and restoration efforts which have been carefully considered to provide period charm. It’s also a fantastic wedding venue!

When dusk arrives on your first day, enjoy the cooler temperatures by taking a hike up the Goat Path. Aptly named, this nature trail which ascends from the dockyard will give you a boost of energy before revealing the most dramatic view of the coastline - it’s especially good at sunset. As you descend, you’ll feel a real connection with Antigua and be more than ready for an evening of well-earned indulgence.

In fact, the English Harbour region provides plenty of options for dining on land. On a Thursday, head to South Point for twinkling harbour views and live music accompanied by delicious sushi. For a more Mediterranean experience and extensive wine list, head to Catherine’s Cafe on the stunning Pigeon Beach for unrivalled service and atmosphere.

Wake up on Day 2 of your Antiguan adventure with an early morning cruise over breakfast to Carlisle Bay. Anchor in the resort’s quaint bay and enjoy the morning on land. Take part in choice of activities available in the properties day visitor pack. Whether it’s a massage in the resort’s peaceful spa or a one-on-one tennis lesson with the on-site pro, Carlisle Bay provides all the luxuries with one of Antigua’s best beaches as it’s base. Have lunch on the beach before catching a tender back to your yacht.

Your final afternoon in Antigua should be spent enjoying the water at anchor. Spend hours circling your vessel via jetski, cutting through the blues and greens of the ocean. Alternatively, try your hand at paddle boarding on calmer waters. Fancy snorkelling? You might even spot a turtle, just make sure you’re back on board for sunset drinks on deck before an evening you won't forget at Sheer Rocks restaurant, just along the coast from Carlisle Bay.

Nevertheless, spending 48 hours in Antigua & Barbuda isn't quite enough experience everything the islands have to offer. For more on how to enjoy this location by superyacht, take a look at our luxury destination guide InDepth.

What To Eat When

National Geographic News Feed - Wed, 12/19/2018 - 20:08
WHAT TO EAT WHEN A STRATEGIC PLAN TO HACK YOUR METABOLISM  DRS. MIKE ROIZEN AND MICHAEL CRUPAIN TAP INTO THE LATEST RESEARCH ON OUR BIOLOGICAL CLOCK TO OPTIMIZE HEALTH AND WEIGHT LOSS IN THEIR NEW BOOK

“Dr. Michael Roizen and Dr. Michael Crupain — the two doctors I always turn to for the latest scientific discoveries — prove that timing really is everything in this insightful, fun, and revolutionary book. What to Eat When show[s] that when you eat is just as important as what you eat — and reveals the right foods for life’s toughest circumstances.” –Dr. Mehmet Oz

“It really does matter what you eat, not just how much. And now, two of my favorite doctors take our collective knowledge a step further by looking at the timing of when you eat your calories: your circadian rhythm dictates a lot more about when you should eat than you probably realize. Through clear-eyed writing and diligent research, Drs. Roizen and Crupain explain why The When Way might just be the best approach to eating.” –Dr. Sanjay Gupta

“When we think about eating, we focus — as we should — on the quality and quantity of what we eat. It’s becoming clear that we also need to think about chronology — when we eat. Drs. Roizen and Crupain’s fun and revealing exploration of the biology of timing and eating will help you eat the way your body really wants you to.” –Dr. Andrew Weil

WHAT TO EAT WHEN: A Strategic Plan to Improve Your Health and Life Through Food (National Geographic Books; on sale Dec. 31, 2018; ISBN: 978-1-4262-2011-1), is a groundbreaking new book about the science of nutrition timing, co-authored and researched by best-selling author Michael Roizen, M.D., and preventive medicine specialist Michael Crupain, M.D. The two doctors give readers an inside look at the schedule underlying our body’s metabolism and reveal why the time on the clock matters as much as what’s on the plate. The book provides new research-based guidelines on how to adjust our diets to align when we eat with our biological clock and shows that eating “The When Way” can help us optimize health, increase energy and lose weight. In addition to their easy-to-remember health principles, Roizen and Crupain offer a straightforward 31-Day Plan of Action and delicious food-based solutions to life’s daily challenges.

“You’ve been probably told to count calories, eat low fat, high fat, low carb or high carb, and most of the time the results don’t last and then we fail and blame ourselves. So, we decided it was time to ask a different question: not ‘What should we eat?’ but ‘WHEN should we eat?’” says Roizen, who is chief wellness officer at the Cleveland Clinic.

The doctors’ science-backed advice flips diet dogma on its head (for example, eat your dinner for breakfast, don’t avoid carbs and stop counting calories), and gives us hacks to eat our favorite types of food and still lose weight.

“It turns out that when you eat is as important as what you eat,” says Crupain, chief of the Medical Unit at “The Dr. Oz Show.” “This is groundbreaking, because throughout the day your metabolism is changing based on your internal clock — called your circadian rhythm. By aligning what you eat, with WHEN your circadian rhythm is expecting certain foods, you can take full advantage of your metabolism to maximize health and weight loss.”

In this trailblazing book, Roizen and Crupain assert that food truly is medicine, and explain how to eat it for both health and taste. Of course, no day is perfect or even the same as the last, so the two Dr. Mikes provide 30 short chapters on situational eating that reveal the best way to eat no matter what life throws at you, including:

  • When you’re stressed or anxious
  • When you’re tired or hangry
  • When you’re pregnant or nursing
  • When you’re at a party
  • When you’re exercising
  • When you have a family history of heart disease
  • When you have digestive distress
  • When you have a family history of cancer

As it happens, the doctors not only spend their time working with patients and populations to improve their health and wellness, but they are also passionate cooks who love good food and want you to love what you eat. WHAT TO EAT WHEN is not a diet book but a powerful guide that will help us rethink what and when we eat in order to lead healthier, longer lives.
